Job Description

About Us

Air Action is a well-established Auckland-based HVAC and mechanical services contractor delivering high-quality design and build solutions across the commercial and infrastructure sectors.

Our in-house design, engineering and project delivery capability means we don't simply design systems—we see them through to completion. This end-to-end approach gives our engineers the opportunity to work closely with clients, consultants, suppliers and project teams, seeing their designs become fully operational mechanical systems.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for another driven and motivated Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our busy team.

About the Role

This is a predominantly design‑focused role, ideal for a graduate engineer looking to build strong technical capability while gaining hands‑on contractor‑side experience. You will be involved in mechanical design while working closely with project managers and site teams, providing valuable exposure to construction, commissioning, and project delivery.

The role offers excellent mentoring, structured development, and support toward Engineering New Zealand chartership.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical HVAC system design for design and build projects, including ventilation calculations, heat load and equipment selection

Preparing and updating AutoCAD and Revit drawings and documentation

Attending site visits, inspections, and coordination meetings

Working closely with construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable

Assisting with project management and coordination activities

Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and consultants

Maintaining compliance with relevant standards, codes, and best practice

Seeing your designs through construction and commissioning on site

About You

You are a motivated graduate or early‑career engineer who wants exposure across the full project lifecycle, from design through to installation.

You will have

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
  • Prior experience or exposure to building services design and tools such as AutoCAD and Revit
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality outcomes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach with the confidence to work independently
  • What We Offer
  • Work for a design & build contractor, not just a consultancy
  • Gain real‑world, practical experience alongside design development
  • Structured mentoring and training
  • Support toward Engineering NZ chartership and ongoing professional development
  • Supportive team culture with flexible working options
  • Regular team and social events
  • A welcoming, respectful workplace where people are encouraged to be themselves and feel valued.
  • * Long-term career opportunity within a respected and growing New Zealand business.
  • Ready to Build Your Career?
  • If you're looking for a role where you'll be challenged, supported and given the opportunity to grow your technical skills while working on exciting commercial HVAC projects, we'd love to hear from you.
  • Apply now with your CV and a cover letter outlining why you're the right fit for Air Action Systems.
  • As part of our commitment to safety and wellbeing, pre-employment checks will include a criminal history check, drug and alcohol testing, and a medical assessment.
  • Only applicants with the right to work in New Zealand and a clean New Zealand driver's licence will be considered for this opportunity.
