Health & Safety Business Partner – Property
Job Description
About Ryman Healthcare
Ryman is a leader in retirement living and care, employing over 7,700 people in New Zealand and Australia across a wide range of areas, including nursing, village operations, sales, technology, design, and corporate roles.
At Ryman, exceptional care is thoughtfully delivered every day. From meals and activities to maintenance and support, our teams work together so residents can feel confident everything is taken care of, because behind that promise is the standard we’ve always held ourselves to: it’s got to be good enough for mum and dad.
We’re in a period of real transformation, focussing on stronger commercial outcomes, smarter ways of working, and continuing to set the standard in retirement living and aged care.
If you share those values and you're looking for a career where your work truly makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
What will you do?
As our Health & Safety Business Partner – Property, you’ll be the dedicated H&S partner for our Property and Development teams, supporting work across new builds, major refurbishments, property projects and village maintenance.
A big part of your role will be working with our Ryman property/project teams and contractors who deliver this work. You’ll help set clear expectations from the outset, build capability through practical education and coaching, and spend time on site understanding how work is being carried out and whether controls are working as intended.
You’ll get involved across the full lifecycle of property work, including:
Partner with Property leaders and project teams early to identify key risks and make sure health, safety and environmental considerations are built into planning and contractor engagement.
Develop practical onboarding, education, briefings and guidance that make Ryman’s expectations clear and easy to apply across our contractor network.
Carry out site observations and assurance activity across projects, refurbishments and maintenance work to check controls are understood, in place and effective.
Coach and advise on higher-risk activities such as working at height, isolations, excavation, hazardous materials, lifting operations, hot works, electrical work, demolition and traffic management.
Help teams manage the unique risks of completing property and maintenance work within operating retirement villages, where residents, team members and visitors may be nearby.
Support incident and near-miss reviews and use contractor performance, assurance findings and data to identify recurring issues and turn them into practical improvements.
Provide clear insights and reporting on priority risks, contractor performance, control gaps and opportunities for improvement.
What's in it for you?
This is a role where you can see the impact of your work. You’ll be involved in everything from large property projects through to work happening within our existing villages, helping shape how Ryman and our contractors approach health and safety in practice.
You’ll also have the opportunity to help shape our approach as we continue to evolve our property delivery model, particularly how we engage, educate and assure a large and diverse contractor network.
In addition, a career at Ryman offers
Broad exposure across Property, Development, village maintenance and our external contractor network
Additional wellbeing leave and flexible working arrangements
Access to discounts with well-known brands across health and wellbeing, banking, insurance, retail and more
Career development opportunities within a large and evolving organisation
A supportive team where practical thinking, collaboration and continuous improvement are valued
Who are you?
A relevant Health & Safety qualification and solid H&S experience within property, construction, facilities, maintenance or another contractor-heavy environment
Strong knowledge of contractor management and higher-risk work, with the confidence to assess whether controls are effective in practice
The ability to build credibility with everyone from senior Property leaders and project managers through to maintenance teams and contractors
A practical coaching style, with the ability to educate, influence and challenge constructively
Experience with assurance, incident investigation and turning findings into meaningful improvements
Confidence using data and reporting to identify trends, emerging risks and areas that need attention
* Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and the ability to translate requirements into practical solutions
At Ryman, digital confidence and commercial awareness are expectations we hold across every role. We are looking for people who are comfortable using data, reporting tools, and digital systems to inform decisions, understand how their work contributes to business outcomes, and embrace new ways of working. Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to grow your capability are key as our business continues to evolve.
We support an environment where everyone feels welcome to be themselves. We embrace diversity and celebrate individual uniqueness, encouraging anyone wanting to work for Ryman to apply for our vacant positions.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received and interviews may take place prior to the close date. This means a job ad may close before the advertised close date.
