Health, Safety, Compliance & Operational Support Advisor
Job Description
Spectrum is a leading supplier of architectural metalwork products and services to New Zealand's commercial construction sector. We design, manufacture and install balustrades, louvres, overhead glazing, handrails and bespoke architectural solutions for major construction projects across Auckland, Waikato and Tauranga.
We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety, Compliance & Operational Support Advisor to play a key role in supporting the safe, compliant and efficient operation of our business.
This is a varied position that combines health and safety leadership, accreditation and compliance management, workforce training, asset administration and operational support. Working closely with management, project teams, factory staff, site personnel and external stakeholders, you will help ensure Spectrum continues to operate to a high safety standard while supporting future growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Leadership
Maintain and continuously improve the company's Health & Safety Management System.
Lead incident reporting, investigations and corrective actions.
Conduct workshop and construction site inspections and facilitate safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Manage SiteWise accreditation and similar contractor prequalification requirements.
Monitor workplace hazards, risk assessments and worker wellbeing programmes.
Liaise with regulators, auditors and external safety providers.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015,WorkSafe requirements, industry regulations, codes of practice and client-specific obligations.
Maintain company policies, procedures and compliance records.
Coordinate audits and annual accreditation & prequalification submissions.
Monitor regulatory changes and make recommendations / implement improvements to systems and processes.
Training & Competency Management
Manage the company skills matrix and training records.
Coordinate employee training and certification renewals.
Deliver inductions and support workforce competency development across factory and site teams.
Fleet, Plant & Asset Administration
Coordinate servicing, compliance and maintenance of company vehicles, trailers and equipment.
Manage registrations, WOF/COF requirements, insurance claims and RUC administration.
Coordinate maintenance contractors and service providers.
Operational & Project Support
Support Project Managers and Site Supervisors with safety and compliance documentation.
Assist with Site Specific Safety Plans, Task Analyses and project compliance requirements.
Help ensure projects meet both customer and regulatory expectations.
About You
You will be an organised, practical and proactive professional with experience in Health & Safety, Compliance or Operations within a construction, manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
You will likely bring
Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, New Zealand health and safety Regulations and Industry Codes of practice.
Hold New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice – Level 3 (Or be studying towards it)
Experience managing H & S compliance systems, audits and investigations.
Excellent organisational and administration skills.
Confidence using the Microsoft Office suite as well as MS 365, Teams & Sharepoint.
Strong attention to detail and documentation management.
The ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, clients and regulators.
A practical, solutions-focused approach.
The confidence to work independently and drive continuous improvement.
A full NZ driver License
Experience with SiteWise accreditation, contractor prequalification systems, training management or fleet administration would be advantageous.
Depending on experience, the role may also expand to include elements of procurement and inventory management activities. If you have some of the skills but not all or can bring other construction relevant skills, we are open to reducing the scope to Health & Safety & Compliance as a part-time role or keep to a full-time role with additional responsibilities that match your skills.
