Job Description

“Nothing we do each day is more important than going home to your family and loved ones”

Lead our culture of keeping our team safe every day

Hands-on influential role, get on site and talk with the team

Make a real difference at leadership and operational levels

A Position of critical influence

Ready to be the driving force of how we live out our commitment to healthy people, safe working, and environmental controls?  Your expertise will shape our capability, consistency and shared learning.  At Camex Group, we're a close-knit team who care about our work, and each other - every step of the way.

About the Role

This is a genuine opportunity to shape how health and safety is done across a growing group of companies. You'll have a real voice in how we work, and the backing to put your stamp on our systems, culture and standards across all four of our companies.

In this Cambridge-based role, you'll lead Health, Safety and Environment across Camex Group, owning the design, implementation and continual improvement of our HSE systems and ensuring legislative, client and company requirements are known and met. You'll provide technical leadership for two colleagues with Health and Safety responsibilities and work closely with our operational leaders, in a hands-on role that balances strategy with time on the ground.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading critical risk assurance, including field verification that controls are in place and effective.

Leading the development and continual improvement of Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), Task Analyses, Safe Work Methods and critical risk controls.

Leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions and verification of close-out.

Maintaining HSE performance reporting, including leading indicators, incident trends and corrective action status.

Overseeing environmental compliance across our sites, including Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.

Ensuring our people, subcontractors and labour hire staff are trained and competent to safely do the work they do.

Building strong relationships with clients, principal contractors, WorkSafe, councils and other industry stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

This role is best suited to candidates with

A minimum of five years' experience implementing and maintaining health and safety systems, in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 9001.

At least two years' experience in the civil construction industry.

A relevant health and safety qualification.

A full Driver's Licence.

Site Safe, First Aid and STMS certification (preferred).

Strong knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation, environmental management and principal contractor obligations.

The confidence to coach operational leaders and challenge unsafe behaviour constructively.

What's On Offer

Camex Group delivers high-quality civil construction, surfacing and traffic management solutions across the central North Island, giving you the chance to work with dynamic and growing companies. For more than 28 years, we've been committed to quality workmanship, on-time project delivery, and building a team that enjoys coming to work every day.
