We’re now expanding into the equestrian market with the launch of a new range of premium wool saddle pads. To support this exciting growth, we’re looking for a skilled and versatile Industrial Sewing Machinist to join our team.

About the Role

Based at our expanded manufacturing facility, you’ll play an important role in bringing our new equestrian product range to life. Your primary focus will be sewing and assembling high-quality wool saddle pads, working with thick wool felt, quilted fabrics and other heavy-duty materials.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work alongside our established drapery and manufacturing team when required, making this a varied, hands-on role within a growing New Zealand business.

Key Responsibilities

Heavy-Duty Sewing: Assemble multi-layered saddle pads using thick wool felt, quilted fabrics, and other robust materials.

Industrial Machine Operation: Confidently operate industrial walking-foot and heavy-duty lockstitch sewing machines.

Precision & Quality: Follow patterns and templates accurately to achieve consistent shapes, clean stitching, and durable finishes.

Finishing: Secure pockets, edge bindings, and other components to ensure each product meets our quality standards.

Equipment Care: Maintain a clean, organised workstation, carry out basic daily machine maintenance, and change needles as required.

Team Collaboration: Assist with drapery sewing and other manufacturing tasks when needed.

About You

You’ll be an experienced industrial sewing machinist who takes pride in producing quality work and enjoys working with your hands.

Ideally, you’ll bring

Proven experience operating industrial sewing machines, particularly walking-foot machines.

Experience sewing thick, dense or multi-layered materials such as wool, canvas, vinyl, or similar textiles.

Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on stitch quality, tension, and consistent finishing.

The ability to follow patterns, templates, and production requirements accurately.

A flexible, practical approach, and enthusiasm for helping establish a new product line.

A reliable work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to contribute to a close-knit team.

Experience with heavy-duty textiles is particularly valuable. You’ll also be comfortable adapting to different sewing requirements, from robust saddle pads to finer drapery fabrics.
