About the Business

Maxion Civil is a West Auckland-based civil contractor delivering projects across New Zealand, including subdivisions, commercial site works, civil infrastructure and landscaping.

With a strong pipeline of projects across the North Island, we are looking for a Junior Civil Estimator to join our growing team.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their career in civil estimating and commercial construction.

Working closely with our Estimating, Commercial and Project teams, you will assist with preparing tenders, quotations, cost estimates, take-offs and subcontractor pricing for a range of civil construction projects.

We are looking for someone with a good understanding of construction fundamentals, strong numerical skills and attention to detail. Candidates with up to 2 years of civil estimating or Quantity Surveying experience are preferred.

You will receive exposure to the full tendering and estimating process and have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of civil construction, contracts, procurement and commercial management.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with estimating and tendering for civil construction projects
• Prepare quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Assist with preparing quotations, tender submissions and proposal packages
• Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Assist with subcontractor and supplier procurement
• Develop rates and pricing from first principles with support from the senior team
• Review project drawings, specifications and contract requirements
• Assist with identifying project risks, opportunities and potential variations
• Support the preparation and pricing of variation claims
• Assist with project budgeting and cost forecasting
• Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing information and tender documentation
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, project teams and clients as required
• Attend site visits and tender meetings when required
• Support the Estimating and Commercial teams with general project and tender requirements

Skills and Attributes

We are looking for someone who has

• Up to 2 years of civil estimating or Quantity Surveying experience preferred
• A qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline preferred
• Some knowledge or experience within the New Zealand civil construction industry would be advantageous
• An understanding of construction drawings, specifications and quantity take-offs
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines
• A willingness to learn and develop within estimating and commercial construction
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
• A practical mindset with the ability to identify potential issues and think through construction methodology
• A positive, proactive and can-do attitude
