KIP Spring 2027 - Policy Intern - Grassroot Institute of Hawaii

The Koch Internship Program (KIP) is a paid experiential learning program run by Stand Together Fellowships that offers professional development, leadership training, and meaningful work experience at non-profits tackling some of our nation's most pressing policy challenges all over the United States. Early-career professionals including undergraduate/graduate/law students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Eligible candidates will be geographically located in and authorized to work in the United States through the duration of the program. Successful candidates will interview with both our non-profit partner organizations and Stand Together Fellowships staff, so we strongly encourage you to begin the admissions process early!

Job Summary: The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii is seeking to hire a policy intern who will work with the director of policy to research and write policy papers, commentaries or articles; and be available to talk about such research to local and national media, community groups and state, county and federal lawmakers.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Conduct general or detailed research as required.
• Assist Institute staff with tasks, projects and events.
• Revise or update research as requested by editorial staff.
• Represent the institute at state and national conferences, as needed.
• Participate in staff calls and leadership team meetings.
• Maintain excellent communication and foster a collaborative working environment with all departments, offices and customers.
• Maintain regular attendance and timeliness.

Skills and qualifications

• Alignment with the vision and mission of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.

• The ability to write well-structured, accurate and readable prose.

• The ability to connect with people in the community who can help with the research..

• The ability to reliably commute to the institute’s main office in downtown Honolulu. This role is open to remote work for the right candidate, but prefers on site.
