Maintenance Fitter

• If you’re an experienced Maintenance Fitter who enjoys solving problems, working on different equipment and where no two days are the same, this could be a great next move.
• Our client is a well-established engineering business based in Nelson, working across a range of industrial environments and customer sites.
• The Role
• This is a full-time, permanent position working both from the workshop and across customer sites.
• Rather than looking after the same production line every day, you’ll work across different equipment and environments, dealing with everything from planned maintenance and breakdowns through to installation, shutdown and project work.

Your work could include

• Mechanical maintenance and repairs
• Fault-finding and equipment diagnostics
• Bearings, seals, gearboxes, transmissions, pumps and valves
• Preventative and breakdown maintenance
• Machinery alignment and installation work
• MIG and stick welding
• General fabrication and fitting
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• There will also be opportunities to travel for shutdowns and projects when required.
• What We’re Looking For
• We’re looking for a versatile tradesperson who takes pride in their work, can think through problems and is comfortable taking ownership of a job.

Ideally, you’ll bring

• A relevant mechanical engineering trade qualification or strong equivalent experience
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
• Experience working with a variety of machinery and equipment
• Welding knowledge and experience
• A practical, solutions-focused approach
• The confidence to work independently when required
• Good communication and people skills
• A strong commitment to safety and quality
• At least a full Class 1 driver licence
• Flexibility to work additional hours or shutdowns when required
• Experience with machining, marine maintenance, pipe welding or ASME welding standards would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.
• Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with the right attitude - someone who enjoys variety, works well with others and is willing to keep developing their skills.
