Job Description

Todd, one of New Zealand’s oldest family businesses and a key player in New Zealand’s energy transition, is on a mission to continue what it’s been doing for over 140 years – contributing to New Zealand’s prosperity. Our core business involves the production and sale of natural gas and electricity to supply a diverse range of customers, including wholesale, large industrial, commercial, and residential. We are at the forefront of the energy transition, committed to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions with new investment in renewable energy.

Data and AI are changing how businesses operate, make decisions and create value.  At Nova Energy, we’re looking for an experienced Manager, Data, Insights to lead the next stage of our data journey.

We’re flexible on start date and happy to work around the right person, whether that’s before Christmas or in the new year.

About the role

This is a broad leadership role spanning data strategy, analytics and insights, enterprise data, governance and AI enablement. You’ll lead a specialist team and work closely with senior leaders across Nova to turn data into better decisions, greater productivity and stronger commercial outcomes.

You will be instrumental in setting the direction for Nova’s data function and determining where effort and investment should be focused. The role combines leadership, technology, governance and commercial thinking, ensuring the business has the information, controls and capability needed to use data confidently and responsibly.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Nova Energy's data roadmaps, including alignment of priorities, investment plans and delivery programmes.

Oversee enterprise data products, ensuring information is accurate, timely, accessible and suitable for operational and commercial use.

Work with business leaders to identify key commercial and operational questions, then oversee the analysis, reporting and tools needed to answer them.

Establish clear data ownership, standards and policies, with appropriate controls for quality, privacy, security and regulatory compliance.

Assess and prioritise uses of AI while establishing governance frameworks and helping the business build confidence in using AI responsibly.

About you

You can move comfortably between detailed technical discussions and broader commercial conversations without losing sight of what the business needs.

You're naturally curious and enjoy understanding how things work, but you're equally focused on practical outcomes. You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions where needed and can explain complex subjects in a way that makes sense to different audiences.

As a leader, you provide clear direction, encourage constructive discussion and help teams focus on what is most important. You remain calm when priorities shift, can work through complex problems and have a track record of bringing people together around a common goal.

Key Requirements

Senior level of relevant experience across data, analytics, data science or a related discipline.

Strong knowledge of data governance, data architecture, data quality, privacy and security.

Experience planning and delivering significant data, analytics or AI-related programmes within a complex organisation.

Proven people leadership experience, including planning resources, setting priorities and supporting team performance.

A bachelor’s or master's degree or qualification at an equivalent level

What we can offer you
