Mō te tūranga | About the role You will be working alongside students and their whanau where concerns about their wellbeing or other factors impacting on learning have been identified, that without intervention may escalate. There will also be the need to contribute to the outcomes for the service, working collaboratively, contributing to process and workflow improvements and capacity building.
This is a fixed term position until mid April 2027, based at a High School in Manurewa.
Key responsibilities of the Social Worker in Schools (MASSiS) role include:
Build and maintain professional relationships- with the school and their staff, key community stakeholders, including other social services and government services.
Case Management - receive referrals, develop and maintain relationships with Tamariki and whanau, complete assessments, conduct reviews, provide connection to agencies and advocate.
Delivery of effective group programmes - consult and collaborate with schools and key community stakeholders about facilitating appropriate preventative programmes. Then plan, develop,, coordinate, deliver and evaluate the effectiveness of programmes.
Community liaison and service coordination - utilise knowledge of community services to benefit tamariki and whanau, work with other professionals to identify and refer, develop a partnership with local Oranga Tamariki offices, Ministry of Social Development and refer to Visionwest and other community agencies as required.
Administration - ensure accuracy of client notes, holistic strengths and needs assessments, complete quarterly reports, attending all team and organisational hui, professional development, supervision and completing all documentation related to group programmes.
Mōu ake | About you
You will need a strong child protection lens as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with schools and Visionwest staff . At times you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team but must also be able to work independently. Knowledge of South Auckland, Pacific Island, Maori, refugee and new immigrant cultures will be beneficial.
Skills and experience we are looking for include
- A social work degree and current registration with the social worker registration board.
- Proven experience working with children/young people.
- A full class 1 driver's license, a safe registered and insured motor vehicle.
