About the role

As an Originator within Light Ends, you will identify, develop and deliver a portfolio of commercial opportunities across the light ends value chain, spanning supply, offtake, storage and logistics.

This is a business development and origination role rather than a day-to-day trading position. You will focus on longer-term commercial opportunities, such as strategic investments and long-term supply or purchase arrangements, that support the objectives of the trading desks. You will build relationships with external counterparties, identify innovative opportunities and work across bp to integrate originated flows into the trading book.

What you will do

• Build and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities across supply, offtake, storage and logistics.
• Identify and develop strategic positions aligned with bp’s global long and short positions.
• Establish and own trusted counterparty relationships that can unlock proprietary flows and new sources of value.
• Originate and integrate physical flows into the trading book to maximise commercial value and optionality.
• Structure, negotiate and perform complex commercial agreements.
• Lead cross-functional deal activity from the initial concept through to execution and implementation.
• Work with trading, operations, analytics, legal, finance, risk and other internal partners to assess and deliver opportunities.
• Support the longer-term commercial strategy of the Light Ends Origination trading desks across international markets.

You will ideally bring

We are looking for someone who can combine an understanding of physical commodity markets with strong commercial judgement, relationship-building skills and practical negotiation experience.

Technical & Commercial

- Strong grasp of physical trading economics

- Proven track record of originating value through innovative ideas, creative structures and counterparty networks

- Negotiation skills
