Principal Firmware Engineer

At Teletrac Navman, we're looking for a highly experienced Principal Firmware Engineer to provide technical leadership across our telematics platforms and next-generation embedded systems. This is a strategic engineering role where you'll shape architectural direction, influence technical decisions, drive innovation, and mentor engineering teams while working on products used by customers around the world.

About the Role

As our Principal Firmware Engineer, you will be the technical authority for firmware architecture and embedded platform development. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver robust, scalable solutions that underpin our telematics and connected vehicle products.

What You'll Be Doing

• Define and drive firmware architecture and technical strategy across multiple products and platforms.
• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of complex embedded systems.
• Influence technical direction and support key architectural decisions across engineering teams.
• Champion innovation, engineering excellence, and software development best practices.
• Provide technical leadership on complex system-level challenges and product initiatives.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical growth and capability development across the organisation.
• Collaborate with product management, hardware, cloud, and software teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

What You'll Bring

• 10+ years' experience developing commercial embedded software using C/C++.
• Deep expertise in RTOS, embedded system architecture, device drivers, and low-level hardware interfaces.
• Strong track record designing and delivering complex embedded products from concept through production.
• Experience developing solutions within telematics, IoT, GNSS, cellular communications, connected vehicles, or similar technology domains.
• Extensive knowledge of CAN Bus technologies and automotive protocols including J1939, J1979, and OBD-II.
• Strong systems-thinking capability with the ability to solve complex technical challenges.
• Experience providing technical leadership, influencing architecture decisions, and mentoring engineering teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
