Procurement Programme Manager

### About the role

Shape the future of Britain’s electricity network. Drive procurement strategy at scale. Find your superpower.

There’s never been a more exciting time to join National Grid.

As we invest billions to transform and strengthen the UK’s electricity networks, our supply chain will play a critical role in delivering a clean, secure and affordable energy future.

We're looking for an experienced Procurement Programme Manager to lead the strategic management of NGED’s equipment portfolio, including transformers, switchgear, cables and associated network infrastructure. This is a high-impact role, sitting at the heart of major network investment programmes, where you'll help shape long-term procurement and supply chain strategies that secure critical materials, deliver commercial value, and enable the delivery of essential infrastructure across our distribution network.

Drawing on strong programme management, procurement and commercial expertise, you'll work closely with Category Managers, Sourcing Leads, Business Partners and senior stakeholders across National Grid to align supply chain strategies with business priorities and future network requirements. The role combines strategic planning, demand forecasting, supplier engagement, pricing leadership and programme delivery, requiring someone who can confidently operate across both the strategic and operational landscape.

The role is hybrid with our base office located in either Castle Donington or Warwick so we'd expect to see you in the office at least twice a week.

### What you'll do

Leading procurement and supply chain strategies for major equipment and infrastructure programmes across NGED.

Translating business demand into robust procurement plans, forecasting models and long-term supply strategies.

Partnering with business leaders to understand investment programmes and develop sourcing approaches that balance commercial value, risk and security of supply.

Defining programme delivery models, commercial structures and go-to-market strategies for large-scale procurement activities.

Working alongside Category Managers and Sourcing teams to develop and execute strategic sourcing events and contract awards.

Providing procurement input into programme sanctioning, business case development and cost forecasting activities.

Driving successful programme execution through supplier coordination, contract performance management, claims resolution and stakeholder engagement.

Identifying and mitigating supply chain, commercial and delivery risks while providing clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Leading supplier engagement activities and building strong partnerships that support innovation, resilience and long-term value creation.

Capturing lessons learned and embedding continuous improvement across procurement, category and business teams.

Developing high-performing teams and fostering a collaborative "One Team" approach across Procurement and the wider business.

### What you'll need

We're looking for a commercially astute procurement leader with the ability to influence at all levels and navigate complex, large-scale environments.

You'll ideally have

Significant experience in end-to-end procurement, supply chain programme management or major project delivery.

Strong understanding of strategic sourcing, commercial strategy and supply chain management within complex infrastructure or regulated environments.

Experience developing procurement and supply chain strategies for large investment programmes.

Strong financial and commercial acumen, including cost modelling, forecasting and budget management.

Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate and influence at senior levels internally and externally.

Experience leading negotiations, managing disputes and driving positive commercial outcomes.

A proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams.

Strong problem-solving skills with experience navigating complex programmes and competing priorities.

Experience working collaboratively across multiple functions and business areas.

* The ability to identify opportunities, manage risk and translate insight into action.

### What you'll get

A competitive salary between £61,000 - £76,000 per annum– dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.

This role closes on 26th October 2026 at 23:59, however we encourage candidates to submit their application as early as possible and not wait until the published closing date as this can vary.

We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for all. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates – we make appointments purely on merit, assessed against objective selection criteria. We support flexible working and will make reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process should you have any physical or mental impairment which may affect your ability to participate in the process.
