We’re looking for a Procurement Specialist to join our high-performing team in a full-time, permanent role within our Assurance, Finance & Risk department.
What you’ll be doing / He aha te mahi
The role of the Procurement Specialist is to work with our internal business units and external suppliers and partners to help plan, source and manage the goods, services and works that are required to deliver our assets and services to Ratepayers.
The key purpose of this role is to develop and execute procurement and plans, deliver successful sourcing outcomes and enable contract and supplier management to deliver the best possible 'public value' outcomes for QLDC.
The role will involve:
Support the delivery of effective procurement outcomes aligned with QLDC's Long Term and Annual Plans.
Provide expert advice on procurement planning, documentation, market engagement, and contract negotiations.
Ensure procurement practices align with Government Procurement Rules and QLDC policies.
Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to achieve strategic, cost-effective solutions.
Contribute to procurement excellence through training, mentoring, and continuous process improvement.
Lead or assist in contract management, supplier engagement, and ongoing reporting to ensure value and accountability.
What you’ll bring to the role / Ko wai to Pukeka
We’re looking for a motivated and systems-savvy professional with a solid background in procurement who thrives in complex environments and enjoys building strong relationships. You'll be analytical, solutions-focused, and confident navigating procurement processes in the public sector.
To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in procurement or a related role.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret commercial and procurement challenges.
Confident using systems and tools, including Microsoft Office; experience with procurement systems is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
Degree in business, law, commerce or a procurement qualification e.g. CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply or above is beneficial.
Proven ability to prioritise, manage time effectively, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic setting.
Familiarity with procurement in local or central government is an advantage.
