Job Description

**What to Expect**

Tesla Energy is actively seeking a motivated and dynamic Product Engineer to play a pivotal role in the successful deployment of Megapack energy storage solutions. In this role, you will actively contribute to the advancement of our internal software tools designed for Service Engineering and Field Teams. You will engage in data analytics to gain valuable insights into various use cases and field-related challenges.

A key responsibility of this role involves the meticulous identification of root causes behind design, process, or firmware failures within our expansive fleet of energy storage systems.

Join our team at Tesla Energy and embark on an exhilarating journey to revolutionize energy storage technology while shaping a more sustainable future. Your contributions will directly impact our mission to provide cutting-edge solutions that empower individuals, businesses, and communities worldwide.

**What You'll Do**

  • Rapidly diagnose malfunctioning equipment to ascertain the underlying cause of the outage and expedite restoration of normal operations.
  • Innovate and construct internal software tools and interactive dashboards tailored for the Service Engineering and Field Service Team.
  • Aggregate and synthesize fleet data, constructing analytical tables and dynamic dashboards to facilitate meticulous tracking and comprehensive reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the field team, engineering, software/firmware experts, to pinpoint the root causes of product field failures.
  • Drive enhancements through targeted interventions in design, software/firmware development, or manufacturing processes.
  • Pinpoint the underlying causes of equipment malfunctions, orchestrating prompt restoration of operational functionality.
  • Offer expertise in handling escalated customer cases, striving to curtail system downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively oversee concurrent internal projects, adeptly adhering to deadlines, and excelling within high-pressure environments
  • Lead the commissioning of utility-scale and industrial energy storage system projects, encompassing activities such as configuring SCADA systems, networking, HMI setup, and executing performance and compliance tests.

**What You'll Bring**

  • Bachelor or Master's in electrical or electronic engineering
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in the energy sector
  • Solid foundation in engineering principles and intuitive problem-solving, applied to firmware/software-enabled mechatronic systems.
  • Proficiency in effectively diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical, networking, software/firmware, or process failure modes.
  • Proficient in Python and SQL for data analysis, including building repeatable scripts and queries to extract, clean, and analyse operational datasets, validate hypotheses with evidence, and produce clear summary outputs (reports, tables, charts) that support engineering decisions and prioritisation.
  • Proficient with Linux systems for engineering and operations work, including navigating and troubleshooting via the command line, managing files and processes, using SSH and jump hosts for remote access, inspecting logs and service health, and scripting (shell/Python) to automate repeatable diagnostic and deployment tasks.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, coupled with a collaborative approach.
  • Self-led engineer who independently identifies the next highest priority problems, defines scope and plan, executes without close supervision, and reliably closes work to a shippable result while adjusting quickly when requirements or priorities change.
  • Attentive to quality, with a keen eye for detail in all undertakings.
  • Willing and able to travel to Taiwan and Japan (and other interstate or international sites) to provide on-site engineering support with field teams, maintain clear daily communication with local and remote stakeholders, and follow Australian health and safety requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of power electronics principles, associated fault modes and grid integration considerations.
  • Fluent English with professional working proficiency in both Japanese and Chinese to ensure smooth on‑site work and communication with local teams, equipment manufacturers or customers in the expanding Japan and Chinese markets.
  • Experience in full‑stack software development, scripting, front‑end and back‑end, and in containerized deployment with Docker/Kubernetes plus CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions/Argo CD).
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts and hands‑on ability to apply frameworks such as TensorFlow / PyTorch, including integration of pretrained‑model APIs, to enhance diagnostics, automate tooling, and support new use‑case development.
  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions under high‑stress, tight‑deadline conditions while simultaneously advancing work and coordinating team efforts.
  • Understanding of work‑site safety practices for construction, power‑generation, or energy‑storage projects, supported by a valid Construction White Card (or equivalent safety certification).
  • Proficient at interpreting equipment datasheets and remotely troubleshooting balance‑of‑plant assets, such as meters, transformers, and RTAC/SEL protection devices.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP, UDP, Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE, CAN) and network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls) to diagnose and troubleshoot on‑site or remote communication issues among devices or components
