Product & Support Engineer
Job Description
Product & Support Engineer
Permanent, Full-Time | Dunedin
About Bison
Bison is a fast-growing export manufacturer of innovative portable container handling systems. Our products are proudly designed and manufactured in New Zealand and used in over 70 countries by customers including NASA, the US Army, Caterpillar and Lockheed Martin.
As our product range and international customer base continue to grow, we're looking for a Product & Support Engineer to become a key technical link between our customers and our sales, production and engineering teams.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys understanding how machines work, solving technical problems and communicating the answers clearly.
You'll develop a deep working knowledge of Bison's products and become a key point of contact when customers or our internal teams have technical questions or problems. You'll investigate issues, troubleshoot equipment and take ownership of technical enquiries through to resolution.
You'll work closely with our engineering and production teams and have access to specialist expertise when you need it. Just as importantly, you'll spend time hands-on with our products - testing, investigating issues and keeping up to date as our products evolve.
Your responsibilities will include
- Providing technical support to customers and Bison's sales and production teams.
- Troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control-system issues.
- Investigating technical questions and developing practical solutions.
- Supporting functional testing, commissioning new designs and product evaluation.
- Developing and improving user manuals, troubleshooting guides, FAQs and other technical documentation.
- Developing and delivering product and user training.
- Assisting customers with spare-parts quotations and orders, and coordinating servicing and repairs.
- Capturing customer feedback and recurring issues to help improve our products and customer support.
- Contributing to product improvements and new-product-development projects as time allows.
- What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines technical aptitude with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
You may be a mechanical, mechatronics or electrical engineer, or have developed equivalent skills through field service, industrial maintenance, machinery commissioning, manufacturing or another practical technical environment.
Ideally, you'll bring
An engineering qualification or strong equivalent technical experience.
A practical aptitude and a good understanding of how machines work.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Confidence working hands-on with mechanical equipment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to explain technical information clearly to customers and colleagues.
Curiosity and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies from engineers and technical specialists.
* An organised approach and the ability to take ownership of problems through to resolution.
Experience with hydraulics, electrical systems, motors, sensors, industrial controls or industrial machinery would be an advantage, but we're equally interested in someone with the aptitude and motivation to develop their knowledge in these areas.
Why Join Us?
This isn't a desk-bound technical support role.
You'll work directly with the equipment you support and alongside the people who design and build it. You'll have the opportunity to investigate real engineering problems, work with customers around the world and develop broad expertise across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control systems.
Over time, you'll become one of Bison's key product experts and have the opportunity to influence how our products, documentation, training and customer support continue to develop.
Bison offers a dynamic working environment, a supportive team and the opportunity to work with innovative New Zealand-made equipment used around the world.
