Job Description

Drilling since 1971. Still finding better ways to do it.

About us

Spiral Drillers started in 1971 as a family business in Tuakau. Fifty-odd years on, we're a 70-strong, NZ-owned piling and foundations specialist, led by co-owners who know the work inside out. We've drilled piles at Navy bases, temporarily increased traffic on the Southern Motorway (sorry) while we built bridge foundations, and repaired slips across the North Island.

We've won awards for innovation and safety, we're ISO certified, and we're still not done. We're not corporate, but we're not cowboys either.

Why this role is different

Not to toot our own horn, but our rigs, our trucks, and our people are something special. With our own fleet, heavy haulage, mechanical workshop and in-house engineering and fabrication, you have real control over your jobs.

Bring your ideas (even the unusual ones). We are passionate about always improving how we work. If we can find a better way, you'll have the room/support to make it happen.

Each project will present a different challenge. A low-headroom piling in a CBD lift shaft one month, a bridge rebuild in Hawke's Bay the next.

You'll

  • Run multiple projects from award to final account: programme, cost, quality and risk
  • Own the commercials: forecasts, margins, variations and claims
  • Administer contracts (NZS 3910, SA 2017 and similar) and protect our position
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Lead our site crews and subcontractors so everyone goes home safe

You'll bring

  • 5+ years delivering construction projects (civil, commercial or infrastructure)
  • A working knowledge of NZ contracts: NZS 3910 and the Construction Contracts Act
  • Strong programming and commercial skills
  • Piling or geotech experience, which is a big plus but not a must
  • A relevant NZ qualification (NZ Diploma in Construction or Engineering, or a construction or civil degree) is a plus, but the right kind of experience counts just as much

You'll fit in if you

Spot problems and bring a 'can do' attitude to getting stuck into fixing them

Have a passion for piling: the ground, the gear, the guys, and the problem-solving

Want to leave things better than you found them

What's in it for you:

Company vehicle

Real ownership of your projects, backed by leaders with an open door

A team where people stay. Some of ours have been here 25+ years

A business that promotes from within
