The Team & Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a valued and integral member of the Bayside Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for women and their families. The RN Student Midwife works competently within their scope of practice to deliver safe, evidence-based, women-centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes for the mother - baby dyad in the postpartum period and beyond.

Throughout the program the student is expected to deliver midwifery care at the level of a developing learner commensurate with the level of knowledge acquired through practical experience and academic knowledge. The Post Graduate Student is expected to work closely with the Bayside Health Learning Hub to meet all requirements of the program. Post graduate Midwifery students are paid for all supernumerary hours needed to fulfil their course requirements.

The program offers opportunities for completion at both Peninsula University Hospital (Frankston) and Sandringham Hospital.

Pregnancy and birth are life changing events. Being a midwife is an inspiring and immensely fulfilling role that requires a number of qualities including confidence, compassion and trust. Every day is different, bringing with it assorted experiences and challenges, and midwives need to have the skills to respond to all of these appropriately and competently.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

Be a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration

Have a Bachelor of Nursing qualification

Have at least one year of current clinical experience

Have a current application in the 2027 Graduate Diploma of Midwifery with Federation University (Part time)
