As our lifting and installation activities continue to expand at Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are seeking an experienced and qualified Rigger Working Chargehand to lead and support our rigging teams.

The Role

The Rigger Working Chargehand is responsible for coordinating and actively participating in rigging and lifting operations, ensuring the safe and efficient movement, positioning and installation of heavy mechanical equipment, steel structures and construction materials.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership to rigging personnel, working closely with Rigging Supervisors, Appointed Persons, Crane Operators and Site Management to ensure lifting activities are completed in accordance with approved lift plans, RAMS and project safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership: Coordinate daily rigging activities, allocate tasks and provide practical guidance to rigging personnel.

Lifting Operations: Actively participate in the safe lifting, movement, positioning and installation of heavy loads, plant and mechanical equipment.

Safety Compliance: Ensure lifting activities comply with LOLER, PUWER, approved lift plans, RAMS and site-specific safety requirements.

Operational Coordination: Liaise with Rigging Supervisors, Appointed Persons and Crane Operators to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.

Equipment Inspection: Verify that lifting accessories, rigging equipment and associated lifting gear are suitable, inspected and safe for use.

Communication: Maintain effective communication between the rigging team, crane operators and other construction disciplines.

Quality & Productivity: Monitor work progress and ensure rigging activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Hazard Identification: Identify unsafe conditions and report incidents, near misses and operational concerns promptly.

Qualifications & Competency Requirements

Level 3 Apprenticeship in Moving Loads, or a minimum Level 3 Diploma in Moving Loads or Rigging (Awarded in 2022 or before)

Supervisory safety training (LATS, SSSTS, IOSH)

Valid CCNSG Safety Passport

Minimum of 5 years experience lifting and rigging management within industrial construction environments.

Strong knowledge of lifting operations and safety procedures.

Ability to pass HPC security vetting.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking disciplined and safety-focused Rigger working Chargehands with strong practical experience in moving loads and steel positioning within industrial environments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical competence, situational awareness, and a proactive approach to safe lifting operations.

Experience & Skills

Proven practical experience in rigging, lifting operations and moving heavy engineering loads.

Previous experience leading or coordinating rigging teams in industrial construction environments.

Strong understanding of lifting equipment, rigging techniques and load movement procedures.

Ability to interpret and follow lift plans, risk assessments and method statements.

Excellent communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Experience working on major infrastructure, mechanical construction or nuclear projects is advantageous.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Valid right to work in the United Kingdom.

Willingness to undergo and satisfactorily pass a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, if required by project or client.
