Job Description

Trinity House is the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, providing and maintaining reliable, efficient and cost-effective aids to navigation that safeguard all mariners. From lighthouses and lightvessels to buoys and modern electronic systems, we deliver essential maritime services that support safe passage through some of the world’s busiest waters.

For more than 500 years, Trinity House has protected lives at sea by providing vital navigation support around the coastline we serve. United by a shared purpose, our people combine expertise, innovation and teamwork to ensure our services remain safe, resilient and responsive to the needs of the maritime sector.

Guided by our WAVE values — work together, achieve excellence, value each other and evolve with ambition — we are committed to supporting our people, fostering an inclusive workplace and making a lasting difference to the maritime community. Incorporated by Royal Charter in 1514, Trinity House continues to uphold its enduring commitment to maritime safety while evolving to meet the challenges of a modern, dynamic industry.

We're always interested in hearing from experienced and motivated seafarers who would like to be considered for future opportunities aboard our specialist vessels.

Working as part of a professional and supportive crew, you'll operate on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation, giving you a predictable work pattern and the opportunity to enjoy extended periods at home. Our vessels undertake a varied range of operational and maintenance activities, meaning no two duty periods are quite the same.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, being part of a close-knit team, and developing their maritime skills in a unique operational environment. Whilst previous experience on offshore support, gas/oil supply, or anchor handling vessels would be advantageous, full training will be provided on our specialist operations and equipment.

What you'll be doing

As a Deckhand, you'll contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, including:

  • Supporting vessel operations and maintenance activities, such as buoy maintenance operations, helicopter operations and lightvessel work, and other routine aids to navigation maintenance
  • Undertaking planned and routine shipboard maintenance
  • Assisting with deck operations and service delivery
  • Maintaining working stores and equipment levels
  • Contributing to a strong onboard safety culture
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the vessel's departments
  • Developing your skills and knowledge through ongoing training and operational experience
  • What we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you have

MCA Efficient Deck Hand certificate or MCA Able Seafarer Deck Certificate of Proficiency

Current STCW certification, including Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Security Awareness, Survival Craft and Elementary First Aid

A current ENG1 Medical Certificate

A methodical approach with good attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety

Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively and remain composed in challenging situations

Demonstrable seamanship skills

An understanding of maritime safety practices and their application onboard

The following would be advantageous but are not essential as training can be provided:

Experience working on offshore support, gas/oil supply, or anchor handling vessels

* Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and email
