We're looking for a Senior Building Control Officer to join our Building Solutions team. As a senior technical specialist, you'll help ensure safe and compliant building outcomes across Southland while supporting colleagues as they develop their competencies and technical capability.

About the role
As a Senior Building Control Officer, you'll play a key role in ensuring Council meets its obligations under building control legislation and continues to deliver high-quality building control services across Southland. You'll be involved in both consent processing and inspections, working across a diverse range of residential, commercial and rural projects. You'll also provide technical guidance and quality assurance support, helping to develop capability within the wider team through mentoring and sharing your expertise. The role offers a great balance of technical work, customer interaction, and opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Building Solutions team.
About you
You'll ideally have
A technical qualification aligned with Building Regulation 18 or an equivalent recognised qualification
Current R1, R2 and C1 competencies
Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Building Act and Building Code
Experience in building consent processing and inspections
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A commitment to continuous improvement and customer service
