Senior Legal Counsel - Litigation and Regulatory Investigations

We’re looking for three experienced Senior Lawyers to join our Legal Services team supporting complex regulatory investigations and litigation across the ASB Group.

This is a senior, hands‑on role suited to a lawyer who enjoys operating as a trusted adviser, navigating risk, and partnering closely with senior stakeholders in a fast‑moving financial services environment.

Mo te tūranga | About the Role:

In this role, you’ll provide sound, timely and pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders, with a strong focus on:

Managing and advising investigations, litigation and regulatory matters

Identifying, assessing and escalating legal and reputational risk early and effectively

Supporting business leaders with clear, commercially grounded legal guidance

Liaising with external counsel, regulators and industry bodies as required

Contributing to the overall effectiveness and leadership of the ASB Legal Services team

Mentoring and supporting less experienced lawyers where needed

You’ll be working closely with senior leaders and will play a key role in ensuring ASB meets its legal obligations while enabling good business outcomes.

We’re keen to hear from senior lawyers who bring

10+ years’ PQE in relevant practice areas, ideally including litigation and investigations

Admission to practise law in New Zealand and eligibility to hold a NZ practising certificate

Strong commercial and business acumen, with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders

Experience in financial services or a highly regulated environment (desirable, not essential)

A collaborative mindset and commitment to professional development
