Site Engineer - Canterbury Region
Job Description
Build the site experience that will take your engineering career forward.
The projects you work on shape the engineer you become.
At Seipp Construction, you will build practical experience across a varied portfolio of civil infrastructure work, including three waters, drainage, pump stations, pipelines, structures and projects with civil and mechanical interfaces.
You will be close to the work, visible on site and supported by experienced Project Managers, engineers, supervisors and construction teams. You will be trusted with real responsibility while continuing to develop the technical, commercial and leadership capability needed to progress into a Project Engineer role.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Site Engineer with at least two years of relevant civil construction experience to join our Christchurch team.
Our projects are often delivered in live operational or public environments and can involve challenging ground conditions, complex staging, temporary works, environmental requirements and coordination across several disciplines.
As a self-performing contractor, we directly manage much of our labour, plant and construction activity. This gives our Site Engineers the opportunity to understand how work is genuinely planned, built and controlled on site.
You will support project delivery by
Understanding the drawings, specifications and scope before work begins
Assisting with construction programmes, methodologies and work plans
Planning and setting up work fronts with supervisors and crews
Coordinating labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and suppliers
Monitoring progress and identifying issues early
Completing site diaries, as-builts, ITPs and quality documentation
Supporting inspections and ensuring work meets the required standards
Preparing and reviewing JSEAs with the site team
Maintaining accurate records of quantities, costs and instructions
Supporting procurement, forecasting and cost tracking
Communicating clearly with Project Managers, consultants and site teams
This is a hands-on role. You will spend time out on site, working alongside the people delivering the project and building a detailed understanding of how construction decisions affect safety, quality, programme and cost.
What you will bring
You will have
A tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related field
At least two years of relevant civil construction experience
Experience working in a site-based delivery environment
The ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
A practical understanding of construction methodology
Strong organisation and attention to detail
Clear and confident communication
A willingness to learn, ask questions and take ownership
A current full New Zealand driver licence
Experience in three waters, pipelines, pump stations, structures or multidisciplinary civil projects would be an advantage, but it is not essential. We are interested in people with strong civil foundations who want to broaden their experience and take on increasingly complex work.
What success looks like
A strong Site Engineer at Seipp
Understands the work before it starts
Is visible and engaged on site
Plans ahead and raises issues early
Takes ownership of their section of work
Keeps site and quality documentation accurate and up to date
Builds strong working relationships with supervisors and crews
Supports the team to deliver safely and to the right standard
Gets the basics right every time
This role is a development step towards becoming a Project Engineer. Progression will come from demonstrating reliable delivery, strong planning and coordination, proactive communication and increasing ownership of the work.
Why Seipp?
We offer
A salary of $80,000 to $110,000, depending on experience
