Job Summary

A Software Engineer Intern focuses on contributing to and assisting with the design, development, and release of our modern web applications, from front-end to back-end development. This role follows established processes and patterns set by the team to complete technical work, applying standard practices and tools to ensure quality and efficiency throughout the software development life cycle. A Software Engineer Intern will support and assist mainly under the close guidance or direction of senior colleagues or leaders.

Seequent is the Bentley Subsurface Company, a visual data science company with products and services ranging from online visualization to scientific computation services. These services are scalable, web-based, and involve intricate scientific visualizations and numerical simulations. Duties and responsibilities

Collaboratively develop creative solutions to a variety of problems, primarily focused on web development.

Specific contributions will depend on your team, background, and interests and the problems being solved.

Collaboratively fix bugs, design, and implement new features.

Accountable to review your own code and that of your teammates.

Test your code and others, understanding when to use unit tests, system tests, automated UI tests or exploratory manual testing.

Fix problems quickly and without side-effects.

Qualifications

Currently in the second or third year of a BSc degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or a similar degree that includes software development courses.

Hands-on programming experience through class projects.

Experience writing code outside of class is a bonus.

Web development with React and Python experience is considered an asset but not required.

Confident oral and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and build sustainable working relationships.

Team-oriented attitude and good conflict-management skills.

Ability to manage your own workload effectively and to work efficiently alongside team members.

Balanced and informed approach to problem-solving.

Tenacity, persistence, and focus with the ability to prioritize between multiple tasks.

* Ability to work in a quickly growing, fast-paced, and constantly changing environment.

Working conditions

Seequent has committed to providing a well-supported and professional office environment. This is an office based role.

You will be assigned a mentor on your team who will work closely with you for the first couple months of your internship. Your Lead, teammates, as well as colleagues on other teams, will also be supporting your professional growth throughout your internship by being available to answer questions, through performance reviews, code reviews, pair-programming, and other opportunities.

Regular training on specific topics is provided throughout the year by your peers, as well as by yourself when you feel ready.
