Straddle Crane Operators
Job Description
C3 are building our pool of Straddle Crane Operators and are looking for experienced heavy machinery drivers to join our team at the Sulphur Point Container Terminal.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome applications from capable men and women who are safety-focused, reliable, and ready to work in a dynamic port environment.
About the Role
As a Straddle Crane Operator, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient movement of containers within our terminal operations. You’ll operate a straddle crane from a cab suspended approximately 11 metres above the ground, communicating with your team via radio.
While previous straddle crane experience is advantageous, it is not essential. We provide comprehensive training to successful applicants who can demonstrate strong heavy machinery operating skills and the right aptitude for the role.
As the container terminal operates 24/7, night and day shifts as well as working weekends is a requirement. Night shifts are rostered between the hours of 6pm and 0600am. Shifts generally range between 6 and 12 hours. Due to the nature of shipping schedules, hours can vary and flexibility is essential.
Because of the long shifts and fatigue management requirements, applicants must live locally or have local accommodation to ensure safe commuting and compliance with company policy.
What You’ll Bring
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a calm, focused approach and the ability to work independently. Your workspace will be a small, elevated cab, so comfort with heights and working alone is essential.
Essential Requirements:
Heavy machinery operating experience preferred but not essential
- Minimum Full Class 1 driver licence or higher
- Comfortable working at heights
- Flexibility and reliability
- Strong communication skills (radio communication is key)
- Good time management and ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to meet operational deadlines
- Commitment to follow standard operating procedures
- Strict adherence to all health and safety requirements
- Physically capable – able to climb an 11metre ladder
- Why Join Us?
Permanent employment with minimum guaranteed hours
Competitive hourly rate starting at $31.52 during training
Comprehensive training provided – on the job and simulator based
A supportive team environment
A strong commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing
Car parking provided
