The United Way of the CSRA AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates program places members at partner host sites throughout Richmond County and Columbia County, where they serve local youth and families through direct, hands-on support. This short-term opportunity allows participants to work alongside experienced staff at organizations including Apparo Academy, Georgia Carolina Council, Boy Scouts of America, Columbia County Community Connection, Boys and Girls Clubs, AM Pathway for Success, Hope House, SWAT Foundation, and United Way 2-1-1. While specific responsibilities vary by site, all VISTA Summer Associates provide indirect and direct-service support for summer youth enrichment programming and comprehensive wraparound services, including academic support, social-emotional learning activities, family resource navigation, meal distribution, mentorship, and referrals to community-based services. Together, these efforts help keep at-risk youth engaged, safe, and healthy during the summer months while preventing learning loss and strengthening overall family stability. The AmeriCorps Summer Associates program is an extension of United Way of the CSRA's year-round AmeriCorps VISTA initiative, which focuses on building organizational capacity and advancing sustainable solutions that empower low-income individuals and communities to move out of poverty. Member Duties : Serve as a VISTA Summer Associate to prevent summer learning loss by delivering engaging academic and enrichment programming focused on "Summer Brain Gain" for elementary and middle school students. Provide tutoring in math and literacy, lead school-readiness activities for pre-K students, and support social-emotional development. Help coordinate daily schedules that balance academics with sports, fitness, technology, and team-building activities. Supervise field trips and hands-on workshops while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Support food access initiatives and promote healthy life skills to address barriers to learning. Build positive relationships with youth and families while creating a fun, structured, and empowering summer experience that supports student success.
