Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

We are looking for a Surfacing Worker to join our Christchurch team and play a hands-on role in delivering road maintenance and surfacing projects across the region.

As a Surfacing Worker, you'll work alongside experienced operators and crew members carrying out a range of road surfacing and maintenance activities across Canterbury. You'll support the delivery of projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard, helping ensure roads and transport networks remain safe and reliable for our communities.

This is a physically active role where you'll work outdoors in a team environment and contribute to a variety of projects throughout the year.

Day to day responsibilities

Carry out surfacing and road maintenance activities as directed by the Foreperson or Supervisor

Assist with asphalt, chipseal and general pavement construction works

Complete pre-start inspections and basic maintenance checks on equipment

Load, unload and handle materials safely and minimise wastage

Support the wider crew to meet productivity, quality and safety targets

Complete daily records, reports and other site documentation as required

Build positive relationships with road users, residents and stakeholders while on site

We’re looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

You’ll ideally have:

Previous experience in civil construction, road maintenance, surfacing or a similar industry

Strong commitment to health and safety

The ability to work well within a team environment

Good communication skills and a proactive attitude

* Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

A full class 1 Drivers License (Class 2 with W,T,R will be beneficial)
