Job Description

A leading defense engineering organization is seeking an Engineering Writer to produce high-quality technical publications for advanced radar, sensor, and electronic systems. The role supports Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), engineering groups, and military programs by developing operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and hardware documentation that adheres to military standards.

This position directly contributes to mission-critical DoD programs and requires strong technical writing skills, engineering understanding, and the ability to work with complex defense technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and edit technical publications for sensors, radar systems, communication systems, and electronic subsystems.
• Research engineering documentation, specifications, and contractual materials to create accurate content.
• Create operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair manuals following military standards/specifications.
• Produce content in multiple formats: page-based, electronic/interactive, HTML, XML, SGML.
• Collaborate with engineers, instructors, and IPT leads to ensure technical accuracy.
• Conduct peer reviews and quality checks of technical publications.
• Support engineering and program teams as needed; occasional fieldwork or travel may be required.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline OR 3 - 7+ years hands-on experience maintaining/operating military radar, sensor, electro - optic, communication, network, or IT systems.
• Experience writing technical manuals covering O&M, hardware, troubleshooting, or parts documentation.
• Ability to work onsite in Elkridge, MD under a 9/80 schedule.
• Ability to walk, climb, or lift equipment during engineering research or system validation tasks.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years engineering/technical writing experience.
• Experience with radar/sensor systems in defense or aerospace environments.
• Familiarity with S1000D, MIL - STD - 38784, or similar documentation standards.
• Experience as a military technical instructor.
