Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Join our Underground Service Locators team as a Utility Mapping Locator, delivering safe, accurate and timely underground mapping and utility location services across the Wellington and Palmerston North region.

You'll use specialised locating equipment, GIS applications and network plans to identify and map underground utility services, helping customers and contractors work safely while protecting critical infrastructure.

Taking ownership of your allocated sites, you'll complete field investigations, capture accurate network data, maintain project documentation and drawings, and provide clear technical advice to customers. You'll also identify and manage site risks, support technical solutions and look for practical ways to improve how we deliver our services.

This is a hands-on, technology-focused opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems and building strong customer relationships.

Ngā pūkenga matua | What We're Looking For

You'll be safety-focused, dependable and comfortable managing your work independently while contributing to a supportive team. Ideally, you will bring:

At least two years' experience in telecommunications, utilities, GIS or cable locating

Experience using GIS applications, ideally Esri ArcGIS

Knowledge and understanding of network architecture

The ability to read and interpret network service plans

Before You Dig certification is preferred

Strong attention to detail and accurate field data capture skills

Good problem-solving, planning and self-management skills

Clear verbal communication and the ability to prepare detailed records and reports

A positive, customer-focused approach and ability to build trusted relationships

Physical fitness for field and labouring tasks, including digging

A full New Zealand driver's licence

You'll also be committed to Zero Harm, following safe work practices, wearing required PPE and reporting hazards, incidents and near misses.
