MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH VETERINARY CARE

As a Veterinarian at SPCA Auckland Mangere, you'll combine your clinical expertise with your passion for animal welfare to provide high-quality care to animals who have nowhere else to turn. You'll work as part of our veterinary team, providing clinical care across a diverse caseload, performing routine and non-routine surgery, supporting animal welfare initiatives and making veterinary decisions that put the welfare of animals in our care first.

You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to process improvement, develop your veterinary skills through CPD and professional development, and support SPCA's animal welfare work through assessments and expert veterinary reports.

Veterinarian – SPCA Auckland Mangere Centre

Permanent – Full-Time

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am-4:30pm

Two weekend shifts per month (9am-4pm) with a day off in lieu

Join a team of 7 Veterinarians,18 Veterinary Nurses and supported by a Head Veterinarian and Head Nurse

ABOUT YOU

You're a qualified veterinarian with solid clinical experience and a genuine commitment to animal welfare. You enjoy working as part of a team, are confident managing a varied caseload and bring strong organisation, communication and clinical decision-making skills to your work.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality veterinary care and treatment to animals in SPCA's care.

Perform routine and non-routine surgical procedures and provide clinical consultations and medical case workups.

Make veterinary decisions that balance animal welfare with the feasibility of treatment and available Centre resources.

Maintain accurate medical records, veterinary reports and other documentation.

Implement SPCA policies, procedures and professional standards, including animal health, hygiene and infection control practices.

Contribute to animal welfare initiatives, process improvement projects and the achievement of Centre and organisational goals.

Work collaboratively with Vets, Veterinary Nurses, animal care teams, volunteers and external veterinary professionals.

What we're looking for

Fully qualified Veterinarian with current professional registration.

Ideally, at least two years' experience in clinical practice.

Experience performing both routine and non-routine surgical procedures.

Strong clinical veterinary skills and sound professional judgement.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.

Ability to manage stressful or emotional situations while retaining empathy and professionalism.

Full New Zealand driving licence.

Experience in high-volume spay/neuter programmes is an advantage – but don't worry! As part of our large and experienced team, there will be plenty of opportunity to upskill and a full induction is provided.
