Welder / Fabricator

Christchurch Wrought Iron & Metalwork is a family-owned business specialising in custom metalwork, architectural fabrication and installation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Welder/Fabricator who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality workmanship and would rather work on custom, one-off projects than repetitive production-line work.

The Role

You’ll join a small, experienced team where everyone works together to get the job done. The work is varied and will see you involved in projects from fabrication through to final installation.

Your responsibilities will include

• Fabricating and welding custom metalwork to a high standard.
• Manufacturing one-off gates, fences, balustrades, handrails and architectural metalwork.
• Working on sliding, swing, cantilever and other custom gate systems.
• Fabricating and welding aluminium gates and other aluminium components where required.
• MIG welding and general workshop fabrication.
• Cutting, preparing, assembling and finishing fabricated components.
• Working accurately from job requirements and specifications.
• Carrying out onsite fitting and installation of completed metalwork.
• Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
• This is a full-time, permanent position - Monday to Friday - 44 hours per week
• What We’re Looking For
• We’re ideally looking for an experienced, multiskilled Welder/Fabricator who can come in and contribute from day one, but we would consider people with less experience with the right attitude.

Ideally, you will have

• Solid metal fabrication and welding experience.
• Experience in custom or jobbing fabrication rather than production-line manufacturing.
• Previous experience fabricating gates, balustrades, handrails, fencing or similar products.
• Good MIG welding skills.
• Aluminium welding/fabrication experience would be a distinct advantage.
• The ability to work independently and solve practical fabrication problems.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality finished work.
• Good physical fitness.
• A positive, reliable attitude and willingness to work as part of a small team.
• A full Class 1 driver's licence – essential.
