Winter Livestock Worker
Job Description
Prepare calving facility. Calve out calves during the calving season. Medicate, vaccinate and treat for seasonal sicknesses. Monitor cattle and bred heifers for signs of labor; perform regular and nighttime calving checks as necessary; assist cows and heifers during delivery when needed. Care for newborn calves and nursing mothers. Monitor newborn calves and nursing mothers. Isolate sick calves. Castrate, brand, clip or tag newborn calves. Feed cattle during snowy/subfreezing periods when no seasonal pasturelands remain available for them to naturally graze upon. Add dry bedding. Remove snow from farm property. Break ice formation in water tanks daily. Fix and repair fencing damaged by drifting snow. Maintain and repair livestock facilities and winter pens.
Requirements: 3 months of experience. Drivers license in 30-days. Clean driving record required
