Changing Jobs on an AEWV: the Job Change Process (2026)

An Accredited Employer Work Visa names one employer, one role, one location — but it does not chain you to them. New Zealand's Job Change process lets you move to any of the 24,823 accredited employers, usually in 10-20 working days, because your identity and character checks are already done.

The Job Change Process

1. Get an offer from an accredited employer — accreditation is non-negotiable; check before you interview
2. The employer completes a Job Check for the role (their responsibility and cost)
3. You file a Job Change application with Immigration New Zealand
4. Wait for approval before starting — typically 10-20 working days

Why This Matters for Your Pay

Workers who arrived on early AEWVs often signed at the minimum threshold. The biggest raises in NZ's system come from changing employers — and as an in-country candidate with NZ experience, you outrank overseas applicants for most accredited employers.
