A rare opportunity to lead and teach within a nationally recognised physiotherapy programme, shaping contemporary cardiorespiratory practice and education in Aotearoa New Zealand.

A full‑time (1.0 FTE), permanent appointment at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Professorial level, with clear pathways for academic advancement, leadership and career development, located at the Akoranga Campus on Auckland’s North Shore.

The physiotherapy programme is in the School of Allied Health at AUT, which is a national leader in health education and clinical innovation, with programmes in occupational therapy, podiatry and postgraduate rehabilitation.

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a motivated Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ AP/ Professor) to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service.
We’re open to expertise across areas relevant to cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, and are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and research in:
Acute and chronic cardiorespiratory conditions
Critical care and acute care practice
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
Chronic cardiorespiratory conditions
Integrated, inter‑professional models of medical and surgical care and service delivery
You will have demonstrated leadership capability and show willingness to take up future substantial leadership roles as opportunities arise. Senior academics also provide mentorship to colleagues in both research and teaching.
We embrace practice-led, research-informed approaches to teaching for transformative student experiences that uplift communities. Your contributions to programme and course development will support our continuous-improvement focus. You will teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of Department and be comfortable using digital resources to enhance learning. You will publish actively in your specialised field/s. Research at AUTis central to our mission, driving innovation, informing teaching and creating real-world impact for communities, industry and society. Over time, successful candidates are expected to seek and attract external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to school/faculty activities.

The selection criteria sought are

Qualification:
A PhD or nearing completion in a field related to physiotherapy.
Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand
A current Annual Practising Certificate (or eligibility for an Annual Practising Certificate)
Clinical expertise in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
Research:
An early-career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline.
More experienced candidates will already have a more established research profile and a proven research track record with quality publications and ideally success in external funding bids.
Evidence of proactively pursuing external research income is desirable. (Lecturers)
Evidence of securing or contributing to external research income is desirable. (Senior Lecturers)
Teaching:
An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teaching experience.
More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience, evidence of course/programme or curriculum development and preferably experience supervising Masters and/or PhD students.

A PhD in a field related to physiotherapy.

Clinical expertise in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
Research and Scholarship:
Significant experience leading and driving research initiatives in a field related to physiotherapy, with a strong track record of research outputs, including publications. Experience with successful external research grant applications if appropriate to your field.
Proven experience establishing and nurturing collaborative relationships with peers in related fields, both within the University and across external academic institutions, industry and professional bodies.
Appointments to editorial review boards of reputable journals, editorship/guest editorship experience and/or conference track chairing.
Evidence of securing external research income is desirable.
Teaching and Learning:
Significant undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing experience in undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy (including course design, preparation and delivery of lectures, practical sessions, tutorials as well as paper coordination).
Ability to contribute to the growth and review of an innovative curriculum and development of high-quality course content, including integration of emerging technologies.
Demonstrated ability to attract postgraduate students and a track record of supervising postgraduate students to completion.
Citizenship and Service:
Experience supporting Indigenous, equity or inclusion-focused initiatives, with the capability to support the AUT’s Te Aronui Framework
Demonstrated academic leadership and service – either internally or externally
Experience engaging internationally with industry, government and community stakeholders to translate and apply research
Proven ability to communicate research to non-academic audiences, including through media engagement
