Civil Engineer

Tradestaff Hamilton is looking for an experienced Civil Site Engineer to join a mining project in Waihi, Waikato. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated engineer who enjoys hands-on site work, coordinating construction activities, and delivering projects to high standards of quality and safety.

We're looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, practical civil construction experience, and the confidence to manage day-to-day site engineering responsibilities in a demanding mining environment.

Start date: ASAP

Pay rate: $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, with weekly pay.

About the Role As a Civil Site Engineer, you'll play a key role in overseeing civil construction activities on an active mining project. You'll work closely with site management, subcontractors, and construction teams to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, and reinforcement schedules to guide site activities.
• Carry out site surveying, setting out, levelling, and measurements using Auto Levels, Total Stations, and other surveying equipment.
• Supervise civil construction activities, including earthworks, excavations, foundations, reinforcement, formwork, and concrete placement.
• Monitor quality assurance and quality control, including material testing, concrete inspections, compaction testing, and resolving non-conformances.
• Complete quantity take-offs, material estimates, site measurements, progress reports, and construction documentation.
• Coordinate subcontractors, site crews, and equipment operators to maintain project schedules and construction standards.
• Ensure compliance with New Zealand health and safety requirements, site procedures, and relevant engineering standards.

What We're Looking For

• A recognised qualification in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Proven experience in civil construction and site engineering within New Zealand, ideally on large-scale civil, infrastructure, or mining projects.
• Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, undertake site surveying, and manage construction quality requirements.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and relevant construction planning software.
• A full, current NZ driver's licence and relevant site safety certifications.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) criminal history check.
• Must be based in the Waikato region, preferably in Waihi or surrounding areas, with the ability to travel reliably to the project site.
