***Shape the future of translational genomic medical research in the South West***
Are you a Clinical Academic Consultant in Clinical Genetics, or a Specialty Registrar who has just finished your training, and are ready to help shape the future of translational genomics research and clinical practice? Maybe you are already a senior Clinical Academic with a superb track record in Medical Genomics? Are you interested in joining a uniquely collaborative centre of excellence in genomics, situated in the beautiful South West of England? If so, we are recruiting for Clinical Academic positions at both Professorial and Senior Lecturer level in Genomic Medicine.
Join the expanding NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre “Genetics and Genomics” theme at the University of Exeter, and the newly established South West Clinical Genetics Service, a forward-thinking, patient-focused collaboration hosted by the Royal Devon, at a pivotal moment in its transformation. With unmatched genomics infrastructure, national and international research, and a strong emphasis on flexible, fulfilling careers, this is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new model for clinical genetics and genomic medicine.
Whether your interests lie in rare or common disease, epigenomics, data science, functional genomics, paediatric, prenatal, neurogenetics, cardiac or cancer genetics, or another sub-specialty area of genomic medicine, you'll find space to grow academically and clinically and contribute to the internationally leading translational genomic research in Exeter and our exciting new clinical service built on innovation, research excellence and support.
There has never been a better time to join the University of Exeter and Royal Devon partnership. We are developing new ways of working and investing in new infrastructure, equipment and facilities to ensure we continue to deliver the highest quality of cutting-edge research, clinical care and patient outcomes.
**The Clinical Academic role**
The successful applicants will work within the NIHR-funded Exeter Biomedical Research Centre to build capacity in our “Genetics and Genomics theme”, co-led by Prof Caroline Wright and Prof Emma Baple. The UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative, (coordinated by Exeter) and the Exeter NIHR Clinical Research Facility provide unique opportunities for development of new treatments and diagnostic assays, as well as delivery of experimental medicine and early phase clinical trials.
This is a strategically important position for the University of Exeter as we seek to expand capacity in genomic medicine, strengthen clinical links with local NHS trusts across the South-West and build on our international reputation in genomic research. The Professor post will be split 50:50 and the Senior Lecturer posts 40:60 across University of Exeter and Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
We are particularly interested in individuals who want to help shape one of the world’s leading centres in genomic medicine. We are looking for current and future research leaders with a drive to use genomics to make a real difference to patients, who are keen to collaborate with researchers from across different disciplines. Individuals with expertise in rare or common disease genomics, neurodevelopmental/neurodegenerative disorders, cancer genomics, data science and functional genomics are particularly encouraged to apply, and would benefit from existing infrastructure, research staff and datasets.
We are looking for outstanding clinical academics with a track record or clear ability and potential to attract substantial grant funding and with an established or growing track record in high quality publications.
**More details about the Clinical role**
