As Phoenix Health Hub continues to grow across Christchurch and Selwyn, our nursing teams and services are growing with us. We have now reached the point where we need a dedicated Clinical Nurse Lead at each of our Phoenix Health Hub sites — Moorhouse and Rolleston.

We’re looking for an experienced primary care Registered Nurse to take dedicated clinical nursing leadership of our Rolleston Hub.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll lead from the floor, remain connected to patient care and take responsibility for ensuring nursing practice at Rolleston is safe, consistent and of a high standard.

You’ll lead and develop the nursing team, oversee clinical nursing standards and workflows, and work closely with our GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Operations Manager and wider clinical team.

Rolleston is growing, and there’s plenty happening here.

Alongside our daytime primary care service, Rolleston is now home to our new After Hours service, extending access to healthcare for the Rolleston and wider Selwyn community.

As CNL- Rolleston, you’ll lead the nursing team and clinical environment by day and support an effective environmental handover into After Hours — helping ensure the site, equipment and clinical environment are safe, organised and ready for the incoming team. The After Hours service has its own leadership and accountabilities; your role is to help make the transition between the two services work well.

He aha ngā mahi? | What you’ll do

Provide visible, day-to-day clinical leadership to the Rolleston nursing team.

Remain clinically active and support patient care alongside your team.

Coach, mentor and develop nurses, including orientation and competency development.

Maintain high standards of safe, patient-centred nursing practice.

Provide clinical guidance and support appropriate escalation.

Support effective nursing workflows, patient flow and utilisation of the nursing team.

Maintain consistent application of clinical policies, procedures, standing orders and agreed pathways.

Champion clinical quality, patient safety and continuous improvement.

Support incident reviews, audits and resulting improvement actions.

Maintain oversight of infection prevention and control, medicines, vaccines, cold chain, clinical equipment and emergency preparedness.

Support our accreditation, quality and regulatory requirements.

Assist with nursing recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning (We have a team to support you)

Work collaboratively with GPs, Nurse Practitioners and operational leaders.

Mahi ngātahi | Our Hubs

Our Rolleston and Moorhouse Hubs operate as separate sites, each with its own team and day-to-day clinical leadership. You’ll work closely with our Clinical Nurse Lead – Moorhouse, collaborating where a shared approach makes sense. This may include nursing standards and best practice, clinical policies, nurse development and competencies, accreditation, clinical audits, quality improvement and shared learning.

It’s about having strong leadership at each Hub, while working as one Phoenix team.

You’ll also work in partnership with the Operations Manager, with the CNL focused on nursing practice, clinical capability and nursing standards while operational and business leadership sits with the Operations Manager.

You’ll be an experienced Registered Nurse and credible clinical leader who understands primary care from the inside out.

Primary care nursing experience is essential for this role.

You’ll bring

Current New Zealand Nursing Council registration and Annual Practising Certificate.

A minimum of 5 years’ post-registration nursing experience.

At least 3 years’ recent nursing experience within New Zealand primary care or general practice.

Strong working knowledge of primary care nursing, including immunisations, recalls, screening, chronic-condition management, wound care, triage and preventative health.

Senior nursing, team leadership or clinical leadership experience.

Strong clinical judgement and confidence supporting clinical decision-making and escalation.

Experience coaching, mentoring and developing nurses.

Sound knowledge of professional scope, standing orders, clinical policies and nursing accountability.

Understanding of clinical quality, patient safety, infection prevention and control, privacy and risk.

Experience using primary care clinical systems.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across a multidisciplinary team.

Formal people-leadership experience would be advantageous; however, we’re also interested in an experienced senior primary care nurse who is ready to take the next step into dedicated clinical leadership.
