**Tenure:** Permanent, Full-time
**Location:** Margaret River or Busselton, Western Australia
National Parks and in the South West Region include Yalgorup, Wellington, Greater Preston, Wiltshire-Butler, Dalgarup, Forest Grove, Blackwood River, Wooditjup, Yelverton, Whicher, Leeuwin-Naturaliste, Scott River, Hilliger and Tuart Forest. The Ngari Capes Marine Park stretches along the west coast from Geographe Bay in the north to Flinders Bay near Augusta in the south.
The South West Region’s key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, fire management, and land-use planning. The region’s headquarters is based in Bunbury. Services are also delivered via the Blackwood District, located at Busselton with work centres at Margaret River, Nannup and Kirup, and the Wellington District, located at Collie with a smaller work centre at Harvey.
We are currently seeking a Conservation Employee – Parks and Visitor Services Specialist to join our team.
Under the direction of the Work Centre Coordinator:
* Participates in specialising in parks and visitor services land management projects which support tourism and recreational activities, with a particular emphasis on carpentry construction, facility maintenance and upkeep to a trade qualified level and supervising construction projects of this nature.
* Mentors and leads others when required, is fully competent and accredited to the appropriate level in fire suppression and control activities and participates fully in development programs linked to obtaining accreditation in natural land management.
The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

**Selection Criteria**
1. Experience in undertaking manual activities related to the maintenance and construction of infrastructure that supports nature based recreational services and conservation activities on managed land, with a preference for someone with specialist carpentry skills to a tradesman level and ability to supervise construction projects of this nature.
2. Evidence of good interpersonal and oral communication skills, of working effectively in a team and under limited supervision and being able to liaise and interact in a positive and effective manner.
3. Ability to mentor and coach others including volunteers, in a range of work programs, identify training needs, and conduct training as appropriate, to ensure best practice quality control measures are achieved.
4. Good writing and computer skills relevant to the requirements of the job and ability to read maps and apply relevant guidelines, procedures, Acts policies and procedures in the work environment.
5. Physically fit for “on ground” fire work and able to pass the departmental fire fitness test, plus ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training and level of experience.
6. Ability and willingness to acquire Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.
7. Understanding of work, health and safety, and equity and diversity principles and practices.
8. Current ‘C’ Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
