About the role
The Retail Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the store to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and customers receive outstanding service. This role is hands-on and focused on assisting customers, completing operational tasks, maintaining store presentation, and supporting the wider team during shifts. The Retail Assistant works closely with the Store Manager to complete daily priorities and operational requirements.
Key responsibilities
Serve customers promptly and professionally, including taking orders and processing sales.
Proactively engage customers on the shop floor, offering friendly product knowledge and practical recommendations.
Look for natural opportunities to upsell wherever possible, including bundles, gifting options, seasonal products, add-ons, and multi-buy offers.
Stock shelves, counters, and displays throughout the day to ensure products are well presented, rotated, and easy for customers to shop.
Assist with opening and closing procedures, including store set-up, pack-down, cleaning checks, security checks, and any daily store requirements.
Follow cash handling procedures accurately, including processing payments, managing till transactions, reporting discrepancies, and supporting end-of-day cash-up requirements as directed by the Store Manager.
Maintain a clean, well-presented, and fully stocked store at all times, including product displays & customer areas (shop floor, counters, bathrooms).
About you
Reliable & available weekends
Customer-service focused with a friendly, positive and approachable attitude
Confident in sales and comfortable recommending products, upselling and helping customers find what they’re looking for
Flexible with availability, including weekends and weekdays when needed
Willing to pick up additional shifts to support the team, particularly during busy periods or staff leave
Proactive and hands-on, happy to jump in and help wherever needed
Works well in a fast-paced environment and stays positive when things get busy
A strong team player who communicates well and supports others
Previous retail or customer-service experience is preferred
Sales experience is an advantage, particularly in a customer-facing environment
Own reliable transport
