\r\n\r\nJob Description\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe Opportunity:\r\n\r\nThe Director, Taxes provides leadership and management to the tax function working with senior management and the corporate finance team as well as collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. \r\n\r\n\r\nReporting to the Vice President, Taxation, this position is an integral part of the finance team providing leadership, technical expertise, and executing on our tax strategies. This role will manage the Company’s income tax accounting and compliance activities and participate in tax controversy matters, tax planning, and ad hoc projects. The Director, Tax will develop talent within the tax team and have a strong collaborative relationship with members of MLF’s Finance team.\r\n \r\n\r\nAny MLF team member interested in being considered for this role are encouraged to apply online by October 13. Applications received beyond that date are not guaranteed consideration.\r\n \r\n\r\nReason for vacancy: Existing Headcount \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nSnapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tLead and inspire your two direct reports and manage the tax team‘s income tax activities (may also include commodity taxes for an experienced candidate).\r\n\tEnsure timely delivery and responsible for overseeing and managing consolidated income tax provisions.\r\n\tIdentify and implement opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.\r\n\tCollaborate and partner with the financial reporting, treasury, investor relations, and operations teams for forecasting, organizational structuring initiatives, and periodic reporting.\r\n\tProvide leadership to the tax team ensuring the timely and accurate completion of domestic income tax compliance requirements.\r\n\tCollaborate with the VP Taxation on tax planning projects and in managing income tax audits and managing the Company’s relationship with the CRA.\r\n\tInteract with colleagues and executives in other functions, including on special projects and ad hoc requests.\r\n\tEnsure that the quality of tax analyses, tax reporting, and compliance activities are consistent with professional standards and company policies and procedures\r\n\tDevelop team members by providing coaching and mentorship. Take on an active role in the professional development of team’s members.\r\n\tDevelop a deep understanding of Maple Leaf Foods: its business, strategy, culture and vision and leadership values.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhat You’ll Bring:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tCPA (preferably CA background).\r\n\tCompleted the CPA Canada In-depth Tax Course and/or hold an MTax degree.\r\n\tMinimum 10 years Canadian income tax experience, including at least 5 years at a public company.\r\n\tManufacturing background preferred.\r\n\tAbility to develop a close working relationship with business partners in order to obtain a deep understanding of the business.\r\n\tExperience implementing and managing international tax structures and related compliance.\r\n\tExperience dealing with CRA auditors and Appeals.\r\n\tExperience managing a team of professionals.\r\n\tStrong interpersonal and leadership skills.\r\n\tStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to deal with ambiguity.\r\n\tAbility to communicate complex information clearly, concisely and to work comfortably with all levels of management.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhat We Offer at Maple Leaf Foods:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tBeing part of a high-performance, people-focused company that has an inspiring and unique vision to become the most sustainable protein company on earth, and a deep commitment to sustainable protein across North America.\r\n\tAn inclusive company culture and a work environment that keeps our people safe, rewards excellence, and empowers everyone to learn and contribute their best. \r\n\tCompetitive Health and Wellness benefits that offer flexibility to meet your individual or family needs, including programs focused on improving mental health and wellbeing.
