Job Description

Join a team shaping the future of energy in Aotearoa | Electrical Engineer

At Channel Infrastructure, we play a vital role in New Zealand's energy supply chain. Our world-class fuel import terminal at Marsden Point receives, stores and distributes fuel that powers businesses, communities and critical infrastructure across the country.

Looking ahead, we have an ambitious growth vision, with a focus on pursuing strategic acquisitions and unlocking further opportunities at the Marsden Point site. It’s an exciting time at Channel Infrastructure as we strengthen our position in New Zealand’s energy sector and build for the future.

About the Role

Nothing on our site runs without electricity. As our Electrical Engineer, you’ll be the technical authority helping keep critical infrastructure safe, compliant, reliable and ready for the future.

Based at Marsden Point, this role brings critical Electrical Engineering ownership in-house. You’ll provide expert engineering and asset management advice across our electrical assets, ensuring systems and equipment are appropriately engineered, maintained and managed.

Our site includes significant legacy electrical infrastructure, making safety, regulatory compliance and long-term asset resilience critical priorities.

About You

You’ll be a senior Electrical Engineer with the credibility, judgement and confidence to lead in a complex operational environment. You may come from power generation, electrical distribution, manufacturing, utilities or another setting with large-scale electrical infrastructure.

You’ll be skilled in reviewing electrical drawings and technical documentation, with experience supporting asset reliability, safety and compliance in high-hazard or regulated environments.

You’ll communicate clearly and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, hold a relevant Electrical Engineering qualification, and ideally have some exposure to instrumentation or control systems.

Most importantly, you can make complex matters practical, turning technical requirements, risk and compliance into clear actions that keep people safe and assets performing.

What you'll be doing

• Act as the site-based technical authority for Electrical Engineering.

• Provide authoritative Electrical Engineering advice on electrical assets, systems, drawings, standards and compliance requirements.

• Support safe, reliable and compliant operations in a Major Hazard Facility.

• Develop and maintain Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering strategies, standards, specifications and procedures.

• Identify asset risks, resilience issues, obsolescence concerns and improvement opportunities.

• Work with operations, maintenance, engineering and project teams to provide clear technical direction.

Why Join Channel?

• Be part of nationally significant infrastructure that helps keep New Zealand moving.

• Do meaningful work that supports safety, resilience, reliability and future growth.

• Join a values-led team where One Team, Innovation, Honesty and Care are part of how we work.

• Contribute to Channel’s growth journey as we prepare our assets and capability for the future.

• Access strong benefits, including enhanced KiwiSaver, company leave, life and income protection insurance, health insurance benefits, EAP support, flexible working and parental leave provisions.

If your experience doesn’t match every requirement but you believe you could contribute to the role, we encourage you to apply.

Please note:We will be reviewing applications and conducting interviews as suitable candidates are identified. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible, as the advertisement may close early if the position is filled.
