Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Forklift Operator to join our busy cold store team at SPM Malvern, 1044 Two Chain Road, Burnham. This role operates forklifts and reach trucks to ensure all incoming product from processing departments is correctly handled and chilled, following the correct Food Safety and Quality procedures. This is a shift work role with our plant running both a day and a night shift.

This role will suit someone with drive, initiative, computer skills (not essential), the ability to work unsupervised, excellent communication skills and be physically fit able to lift heavy items.

These positions involve working in a cold environment and mainly involve operating forklifts and reach trucks to: put pallets into cold storage and relocate as required, load and unload trucks and containers, stack and retrieve pallets of product, and pick orders for dispatch. The role also includes sorting and stacking cartons of product, handling frozen carcasses, and packing for local transport.

Successful applicants must demonstrate the following:

Proven experience with safe work practices

Willing to learn, work hard and reliable with a good attitude

Flexible to work weekends or night shift, long hours and early starts.

Ability to work effectively in a team or individual environment.

At least 3 years' forklift/reach truck operating experience, or a relevant NZQCF Level 4 qualification (e.g. NZ Certificate in Distribution).

Enthusiasm, willing to work hard, physically fit and able to lift 20 – 40+ kg cartons/carcasses.

Hours of work vary from 30 - 60 hours per week with paid rates ranging from $30 -$35 per hour dependent on assigned task, skill and experience, plus any applicable allowances and overtime.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years' relevant forklift experience or a relevant NZQCF Level 4 qualification.
