HCA (Health Care Assistant)

Ealga Lodge Nursing Home are currently seeking Healthcare Assistants to join the team.

Function

Healthcare Assistants are required to promote a caring environment for residents through high standards of professional practice which are conductive to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the Residents of the Home.

Main Duties

Supporting the Nursing Staff and team in delivering quality person-centred care to meet the needs of residents

Enabling and assisting residents to maintain their personal appearance/hygiene needs whilst always maintaining their dignity

Enabling and assisting residents to eat/drink and achieve physical comfort

Maintain accurate and thorough care records

To communicate effectively with residents, staff and relatives.

Assist Residents with their personal hygiene needs including bathing, showering, shaving, mouth care and nail care.

Assist Residents with their personal grooming including dressing, undressing, hair care, denture care and care of glasses and hearing aids.

Assist Residents with their personal clothing on admission and for the duration of their stay.

Assist with the promotion of the continence and management of incontinence.

Supervise and if necessary remain with Residents when using commodes or in the toilet or bathrooms.

Assist and support Residents during meal times.

Move and position Residents where necessary, using mechanical aids as required.

Assist Residents with walking and limb exercises as directed.

Be familiar with and comply with the Nursing Home policy in relation to hygiene, infection control and waste disposal procedures.

Assist in keeping bedrooms, bathrooms and related areas clean.

Report all incidents and accidents involving self or a Resident, other staff or visitors to the Director of Nursing or deputy immediately.

Wear suitable protective clothing when required to do so.

Attend all staff training as and when required.

Ensure individual Resident's dietary needs are adhered to. Assist with special diet and supplementary drinks as directed to by the nursing staff.

Assist Residents with drinks throughout the day.

One year’s experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a Nursing Home or similar environment

Licence/Certification

QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support (preferred)
