A fantastic opportunity to build your Health & Safety career with a respected New Zealand construction company and a supportive team that genuinely values its people.

About LT McGuinness

LT McGuinness has been operating since 1950 and is extremely proud of its talented and dedicated team, many of whom have been with us for more than 25 years. When you join us, you'll quickly see that we do things differently. You'll become part of our whānau, where your wellbeing and safety are paramount, and you'll be supported to learn, grow, and build your career. We have projects in Wellington, Auckland, Manawatū, the Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, and Antarctica.

About the role

We’re looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our Auckland team at an exciting time, with a strong pipeline of upcoming projects across the region. This is a great opportunity to work alongside experienced commercial and project teams on a diverse range of commercial construction projects.

This site-based role supports the delivery of health and safety objectives in a practical, engaging, and effective way. It champions positive safety behaviours and continuous improvement, with a focus on encouraging individuals and teams to take ownership of health and safety throughout the project.

Your key responsibilities

Provide day-to-day HSE support and guidance to project teams and subcontractors.

Lead site inspections, audits, and workplace observations.

Facilitate risk assessments, task planning, and pre-start processes.

Support the development and review of SWMS, environmental controls, and project-specific safety plans.

Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards, identifying root causes and corrective actions.

Monitor and report on project compliance in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and LT McGuinness management systems.

Coordinate site inductions and ongoing workforce engagement activities.

Assist with environmental management, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.

Track HSE performance metrics and prepare reports for project leadership and client teams.

Promote a positive Health & Safety culture and worker participation throughout the project.

Support major operations, including cranage, road closures, and other high-risk activities.

Maintain a regular physical presence on-site, immediately actioning items of concern, and becoming a go-to person for worker concerns.

Skills and experience required:

4–5 years’ experience in a construction HSE role.

Sound understanding of New Zealand health and safety legislation.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Confidence engaging with trades, supervisors, and senior management.

Experience facilitating incident investigations and corrective action management.

Competent in the use of digital safety management systems.

Full New Zealand driver's licence.

The following would be beneficial, but are not essential:

Relevant qualifications in Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or related discipline.

Construction industry experience on large commercial projects.

ICAM or equivalent incident investigation training.

Internal auditor qualification.

Experience with Hammertech or similar digital HSE platforms.

Why join us?

Work on quality commercial construction projects across Auckland, including exciting upcoming opportunities.

Be part of a stable, experienced and supportive team.

* Grow your Health & Safety career with a company that values development, hard work and long-term relationships.
