**Role Overview**
We are seeking an experienced **Lead Phlebotomist** to oversee our phlebotomy operations and guide a small team while performing expert blood collections. This role combines strong hands-on phlebotomy skills with leadership responsibilities, including staff training, workflow coordination, policy adherence, inventory management, and motivating the team to deliver consistent, high-quality service. The ideal candidate is a skilled phlebotomist who enjoys leading by example and ensuring smooth, efficient, and compassionate patient experiences in our integrative health clinic.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Perform accurate venipunctures, capillary draws, and specimen collections on patients of all ages (including pediatrics) with minimal discomfort and high success rates.
- Lead daily phlebotomy operations: assign tasks, coordinate patient flow, monitor performance, and provide guidance to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Train and mentor team members (including new hires ): demonstrate techniques, verify competencies, and offer constructive feedback.
- Optimize workflow: prioritize draws, minimize wait times, troubleshoot issues, and support seamless clinic operations.
- Enforce phlebotomy policies and procedures in compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and practice standards; ensure team adherence to safety, infection control, and quality protocols.
- Manage inventory: track supplies (needles, tubes, labels, etc.), monitor stock levels, maintain organized storage, and coordinate replenishment as needed.
- Oversee accurate labeling, documentation, and specimen tracking in the EHR; report any discrepancies or incidents promptly.
- Motivate the team through positive reinforcement, recognition of good work, and a focus on patient-centered excellence.
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, and front-office staff to enhance patient satisfaction and clinic flow.
- Participate in staff meetings, quality initiatives, and occasional process improvements.
**Qualifications**
**Required:**
- Active phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT via NHA, PBT via ASCP, or equivalent).
- 3–5 years of clinical phlebotomy experience in a medical office, lab, hospital, or clinic setting (integrative or functional medicine experience a plus).
- Prior experience in a lead, supervisory, or training role (e.g., guiding shifts, mentoring staff, or coordinating team tasks).
- Proficient venipuncture skills, including success with difficult draws and pediatric patients.
- Solid knowledge of phlebotomy best practices, specimen handling, lab safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a calm, empathetic approach to patients and team members.
- Detail-oriented with good organizational and time-management abilities in a busy environment.
- Comfortable using electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer systems.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, safety, and delivering compassionate care.
**Preferred:**
- Experience in integrative, holistic, or functional medicine practices.
- Familiarity with pediatric phlebotomy and patient calming techniques.
- Background in inventory tracking or workflow optimization.
