Job Description

Big ideas. Real-world impact. Global opportunity.

At SYOS Aerospace , we’re developing advanced uncrewed systems across air, land and sea. With research and development in New Zealand and a growing international footprint, we’re building innovative technology designed to solve complex real-world challenges.

We’re looking for a Mechanical Analysis Engineer with deep expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural simulation to help ensure our platforms are robust, reliable and fit for purpose.

This is an opportunity for an experienced specialist who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, validating designs and working closely with design and engineering teams to turn analysis into practical solutions.

The SYOS Way

At SYOS, we move quickly, challenge conventional thinking and take ownership of the outcomes we deliver. Our engineers work collaboratively across disciplines, balancing technical rigour with practical problem-solving to develop systems that perform in demanding environments.

About the Role

As our Mechanical Analysis Engineer, you’ll lead and deliver structural analysis activities across the development of our uncrewed platforms. You’ll use advanced FEA techniques to assess structural integrity, understand component behaviour under complex loading conditions and provide evidence-based recommendations that inform design decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess structural integrity, strength, stiffness and performance under a range of loading conditions.
  • Develop and execute linear and nonlinear structural analyses, including modal and vibration analysis.
  • Use hand calculations and engineering fundamentals to validate simulation results and support sound engineering decisions.
  • Correlate analytical predictions with physical test results and investigate discrepancies where required.
  • Work closely with mechanical design and wider engineering teams to identify design risks and recommend improvements.
  • Use CAD and simulation tools to develop analysis models, assess design iterations and support engineering development.
  • Document analysis methods, assumptions, results and recommendations in clear, technically robust reports.

About you

We’re looking for someone with substantial hands-on analysis experience, ideally with

focus specifically on FEA and structural analysis . You’ll bring strong technical judgement, confidence in interpreting results and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable engineering advice.

What you will bring

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience, with a strong focus on FEA and structural analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise using ANSYS Mechanical and ANSYS Workbench .
  • Experience with linear and nonlinear analysis, modal analysis and vibration assessment.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, material behaviour, boundary conditions, loading assumptions and failure modes.
  • Confidence validating simulation results through hand calculations, engineering judgement and correlation with physical testing.
  • Experience interpreting complex results and translating them into practical design recommendations.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, ideally Siemens NX.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in aerospace, uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) or other safety-critical engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of composite structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant aerospace and defence standards, such as CAA, FAA, EASA, MIL-STD-810 or MMPDS.
  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter or other product lifecycle management systems.
  • Programming or scripting experience using Python or ANSYS APDL to automate analysis workflows.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration.

The SYOS Mindset

We’re looking for someone who embodies the SYOS approach

Own the outcome: Take responsibility for the quality and integrity of your analysis.

Think critically: Challenge assumptions, investigate problems and apply sound engineering judgement.

Move with purpose: Work efficiently without compromising technical rigour.

Collaborate openly: Share knowledge and work across disciplines to achieve the best outcomes.

Keep pushing forward: Look for better ways to analyse, validate and improve our designs.

Come build with us. Challenge us. Grow with us.
