We’re looking for a hands-on Night Shift 2IC to join a busy food distribution operation in Palmerston North. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity for someone with strong warehouse experience who is ready to step into a leadership role.

Working alongside the Nightshift Supervisor, you’ll help lead the team, keep freight moving and ensure orders are picked, checked and dispatched accurately and on time. You’ll need to lead by example, get stuck in on the floor and help keep the operation running smoothly.

This role involves working in a cool store environment, with temperatures ranging from 2°C to -18°C. Most work is in the chiller, with some time in the freezer, so you must be comfortable working in cold conditions.

What you’ll be doing

• Supporting the Supervisor with the day-to-day running of the night shift
• Leading and motivating the team, stepping up when the Supervisor is away
• Sorting freight onto the correct trucks for dispatch
• Picking, checking and packing customer orders
• Completing outstanding orders from the day shift
• Maintaining a safe, tidy and efficient warehouse
• Helping improve processes and team performance

What we’re looking for

• Strong warehouse and freight experience
• Current OSH Forklift Certificate and forklift experience
• Leadership experience or the confidence to step into a 2IC role
• Comfortable working in temperatures from 2°C to -18°C
• Physically fit and able to work at pace
• Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of HACCP and food safety requirements
• Basic computer skills, including Excel, Word and Outlook
