Production Technician
Job Description
Like building things, solving problems and getting stuck into practical work? Then this role's for you!
Full-time, Mon–Fri, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm | Onsite | Penrose, Auckland | Immediate start available
About Atrax
Atrax Group NZ Ltd is the world leader in the design, manufacture, integration and support of industrial weighing, dimensioning and related control systems for the Airport and Logistics industries. Over 800 airport sites across more than 180 countries and territories use our products and systems every day.
About the role
We're looking for a Production Technician to join our busy Penrose workshop, helping assemble, wire, test and prepare the specialist weighing and automation equipment that Atrax is known for.
You'll work across a variety of products, particularly kiosks, barrier arms and associated control systems. From electrical wiring and mechanical assembly through to testing, troubleshooting and fault finding, there's plenty of variety to keep things interesting.
You'll be part of a small, supportive team where everyone pitches in. Reporting to our Production Team Leader, you'll work closely with our engineers and service technicians, with hands-on training and support as you get familiar with our products.
What you'll be doing
Assembling, wiring and testing kiosks, barrier arms and other weighing and automation equipment.
Completing electrical wiring, mechanical assembly, soldering and hardware and software testing.
Reading technical drawings and schematics to ensure equipment is built correctly.
Programming weight indicators, including CDI-1600, 720i, 920i, as well as large figure displays.
Creating and preparing decal artwork for various products using CorelDraw.
Troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical and electronic faults.
Checking incoming parts and completed products to ensure they meet quality standards.
Making practical modifications, including measuring, drilling and adjusting components when required.
Preparing parts, cables, equipment and kits to support our Field Service Technicians.
Assisting with packing, dispatch, stock handling and unloading of containers.
Recording and tracking information using Excel and other internal systems.
Keeping the workshop safe, tidy and organised.
About you
We're looking for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on technical work, takes pride in getting the details right and is keen to keep learning.
Ideally, you'll bring
Experience in production, assembly, technical manufacturing or a similar hands-on environment.
Some experience with electrical wiring, mechanical assembly and using workshop tools.
The ability to read and understand technical drawings, wiring diagrams or schematics.
Practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with an interest in electronics and control systems.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
Good organisation skills and the ability to manage several tasks or builds at once.
Experience in creating and preparing artwork using CorelDraw or similar graphic design software.
Basic computer skills, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
Just as importantly, you're someone who takes ownership of your work, asks questions when needed, responds well to feedback and is happy to pitch in wherever the team needs a hand.
Experience with PCB-level fault finding, PLC systems, soldering or electronic testing would be a real advantage, but we're also open to someone with a solid technical foundation who's keen to develop these skills.
You don't need previous experience with weighing or weighbridge equipment. We'll teach you our products and support you as you get up to speed.
Nice to have
EWRB registration, or an interest in working towards it.
Forklift licence, or willingness to obtain one.
* Full driver's licence.
This is a hands-on workshop role, so you'll also need to be comfortable with the physical side of the job, including safely handling and moving heavier components.
