Quality Controller - Manufacturing
Job Description
Are you passionate about quality, precision and getting the job done right?
We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Quality Controller to join our Production Department. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong trade or manufacturing background who takes pride in quality workmanship and understands what it takes to deliver high-quality, engineered products.
Working closely with our Production Manager, Design Department and workshop team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our manufactured products and tankers meet engineering specifications, approved drawings, safety requirements and customer expectations.
If you have a keen eye for detail, strong technical knowledge and the confidence to identify and resolve quality issues, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role
This is a practical, hands-on role where you’ll oversee quality throughout the manufacturing process, from initial fabrication through to final inspection and dispatch.
You’ll work alongside our production team to identify potential issues early, ensure work meets the required standards, maintain accurate quality records and help drive continuous improvement across the workshop.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect fabricated components, assemblies and completed tankers to ensure they meet approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Carry out quality checks throughout production, identifying and addressing issues before they progress to the next stage.
- Assess fabrication, welding, fit-up, assembly and finishing workmanship.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and job documentation.
- Identify, document and help resolve non-conformances, defects and rework.
- Complete and maintain accurate inspection reports, quality checklists and production documentation.
- Work closely with workshop personnel, the Production Manager and Design Department to resolve quality issues.
- Conduct final inspections before products are released or dispatched to customers.
- Identify recurring issues and contribute to improvements in manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Promote a strong culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement throughout the production environment.
About you
You’ll be practical, organised and confident assessing workmanship against engineering and manufacturing requirements. You’ll understand how jobs progress through a workshop and be comfortable working with tradespeople to achieve the best possible outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have
- A recognised trade qualification and/or a strong trade background.
- Experience in mechanical engineering, fabrication, welding, heavy manufacturing or a similar industry.
- A solid understanding of fabrication, welding, assembly and mechanical manufacturing processes.
- The ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- A good understanding of manufacturing tolerances, workmanship standards and quality control principles.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to prepare reports, manage spreadsheets and maintain accurate records.
- Confidence learning and using internal production, quality or ERP systems.
- Experience in tanker manufacturing, pressure equipment or heavy fabrication would be a significant advantage.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring a proactive, solutions-focused approach to your work, along with the confidence to make sound decisions and address quality concerns professionally.
You will be
- Quality-focused: You have a keen eye for detail and take pride in getting things right the first time.
- Practical and hands-on: You understand workshop environments and can assess workmanship with confidence.
- A clear communicator: You can work constructively with tradespeople, production staff and management.
- Organised: You can manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting production deadlines.
- Proactive: You identify potential problems early and look for ways to prevent them from happening again.
- Reliable and professional: You consistently maintain high standards and build positive working relationships.
- * Safety-conscious: You understand the importance of maintaining a safe and compliant manufacturing environment.
- Why join us?
