Refrigeration Engineer

Looking for a refrigeration role where you're not doing the same thing every day?

We're recruiting exclusively for a growing Taupo-based refrigeration business looking to add another Refrigeration Technician to its team.

This is a varied field-based role split across service, breakdown and preventative maintenance work, alongside refrigeration installations and projects. You'll work predominantly across dairy farms and the wider agricultural sector, installing, servicing and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems.

You don't need to come from the dairy or agricultural sector. If you have solid commercial refrigeration experience and can fault-find when a system goes down, we'd like to hear from you.

The technical scope includes dairy farm refrigeration systems, commercial refrigeration, walk-in chillers and freezers, and CO2 transcritical systems.

What you'll be doing

Approximately half of the role is focused on service work, including reactive breakdowns, planned servicing and preventative maintenance. The other half is project and installation focused.

•       Diagnosing faults and completing refrigeration breakdown repairs

•       Completing planned servicing and preventative maintenance

•       Installing, servicing and maintaining refrigeration systems

•       Completing commercial refrigeration installations

•       Installing walk-in chillers and freezers

•       Working with CO2 transcritical refrigeration systems

•       Assessing refrigeration requirements and contributing to system solutions

•       Completing pipework preparation and associated installation work

•       Completing accurate service reports and maintenance documentation

•       Building strong customer relationships while working independently in the field

About you

We're open-minded about where you've gained your experience. You might already work within dairy or agricultural refrigeration, or you could come from a broader commercial refrigeration background and be looking for something different.

Ideally, you'll bring

• Refrigeration servicing and maintenance experience
• Strong fault-finding and breakdown capability
• Commercial refrigeration experience
• Confidence working independently at customer sites
• Good communication and customer service skills
• A practical, safety-conscious approach
• Willingness to participate in an on-call roster
• Interest in continuing to develop technically, including CO2 refrigeration
• Experience with truck refrigeration is advantageous, but not essential.
• Candidates who are nearing completion of their refrigeration apprenticeship and have developed strong practical skills are also encouraged to apply.
